Challenge

ONE CHARITY. MANY CHALLENGES

The Duchess’s Community High School is located in rural north Northumberland with a diverse range of 1500 students aged 11 – 18.

Only a third of our students live in the market town of Alnwick.  The rest travel each day from surrounding  rural and coastal villages.

THE CATCHMENT AREA IS EQUIVALENT IN SIZE TO GREATER LONDON.

As a result, many students’ journey to school is up to an hour and is dependent on  a fleet of school buses .  This has a considerable impact on students ability to access activities out of school hours and deprives them of opportunities their peers in other parts of the UK enjoy.

BOOST aims to address some of the challenges presented by this large, rural catchment area.  We are the only voluntary sector organisation offering activities that support almost every secondary school aged young person in this vast area of north Northumberland.

Our Story

OUR STORY SO FAR...

Our charity was originally established in 1994. Following a period of dormancy, a new group of trustees stepped up in 2020 to rebuild the charity.

BOOST is led by a board of Trustees who are parents and members of the community as well as a teacher. We meet six times a year and are the sole gate keepers for all of the charity’s projects.

All our trustees are DBS checked and has undergone Safeguarding training specific to our role as trustees. To view our Safeguarding Policy, click here…..
